Into the Wild Blue Yonder…
The U.S. Air Force is taking this nation in a direction I never thought I’d see it go, not too mention never wanted it to go. But hey, I keep forgetting that this nation is being led (quietly and without protest by the general populace) down the pretty road of fascism. I need to write that down somewhere where I’ll see it everyday or something.
Anyhow the Air Force is busy blocking access to blogs and other websites at an amazing rate, all in the name of national security. I guess telling the world that you’re fed up with the shitstorm out of D.C. is a grave security misgiving. Funny, I always thought the people of this nation were free to criticize their government and their military. Guess I was wrong…again. You know, now that I think about it, I’ve been wrong more often than usual these days…fucking Republithugs.
But there is a glowing source of enraged hope yet remaining within the Air Force command. This senior official is unnamed, another national security matter I suppose, but he has a rather enlightening comment on the matter:
“When I hear stuff this utterly stupid, it makes me want to scream…. Piles of torn out hair are accumulating around my desk as we speak,” one senior Air Force official writes in an e-mail. “I’m certain that by blocking blogs for official use, our airmen will never, ever be able to read them on their own home computers, so we have indeed saved them from a contaminating influence. Sorry, didn’t mean to drip sarcasm on your rug.”
I don’t believe I could have said that any better myself. Dripping sarcasm…fun.
Now, looking past the blatant censorship the Air Force is leveling on its troops there remains the technical excuse they are using. Blogs they say, cut productivity and consume band width. Fair enough. What about ESPN and Fox Sports, or a dozen music web sites that offer videos and online players? Don’t those cut productivity and chew through ‘official’ band width at an amazing rate? I think they do. But what they don’t do is offer an opinion on the government, or the military, or the war. So in effect these sites offer a distraction that doesn’t promote ‘unhealthy’ thoughts about our government. Keeping the populace docile and distracted isn’t enough, now we have to ensure our military is fucking brain dead too. Good fucking job guys!
Then there remains the fact (though I might be wrong about this, can’t find any solid sources for this one) that even if our military is capable of restricting access to everything they find offensive or critical to our troops while at work, they can’t restrict access to those sites in the troops home. Now, like I said, I could be wrong about that. I’ll have to look some more and see what I can find.
So, there you have it. Censorship and fascism marching through the American military now. The military has always been a bastion of compliance and conformity, true enough, but this latest round of fucking stupid is above and fucking beyond.
Link and out.
