Hoover is still an asshole
He was born an asshole, lived as an asshole, and died as an asshole. Many people do that, but most of them manage to quit being an asshole after death. Hoover is still playing the game from beyond the fucking grave. I guess one too many people have slandered his memory.
Anyhow, old Hoover planned a mass jailing in 1950 for all those Americans he thought to be dissident, disloyal, or Communist and so forth. Some 12,000 people actually. And he wanted them held permanently in military and federal prisons.
Essentially Hoover wanted to do what the Boy King has done; suspend the writ of Habeas Corpus. And if any of you reading this don’t know what Habeas Corpus is, fuck off. But in order to suspend the basic rights of every American Hoover needed presidential approval. Truman never gave it.
The Constitution makes pretty clear when and why Habeas Corpus may be suspended. Rebellion and invasion for instance. And only if public safety requires such extreme measures. Note, the revocation of Habeas Corpus is not mandatory even during a war on our own soil. Georgi just wanted to flex his muscles and look like an asshole doing it. Job well done shithead.
Since the September 11 attacks Habeas Corpus has been a major point of contention, finding itself at the forefront of American politics for seven years now. Suspects have been held without cause, without legal aid, without even being charged. The White House claims that this power may only be used on ‘terror suspects’, yet his nice little Homeland Security and Patriot Acts state that ANYONE, citizen or other wise, may be arrested and detained indefinitely. How does this differ from the tactics that Hoover used and Truman refused to agree with?
Now I know that some of you historians out there will want to throw Lincoln at me for his suspension of Habeas Corpus during the Civil War. Not any fun at all I assure you, but he had legitimate cause to do as such. Bush has no cause; he has never had any cause. He simply wants to run his presidency as if it were some sort of seriously fucked up game.
End game is this, people, if Truman decided not to go along with this nefarious little plan that undermines the most basic premise of democracy, then why the hell is no one fighting now? I fucking hate Truman. I never liked Truman, but I can give credit where credit is fucking due. The closest Truman came to being the authoritarian son of a whore that Bush is so desperate to become was when he signed an order authorizing the detention of ‘dangerous radicals’ in 1950. But the President had to declare a NATIONAL EMERGENCY to do so.
This nation is under no such emergency. And if by some infinitesimally small chance we are under a grave and immediate threat from foreign powers, then I must tell you, America penned her own fucking threat.
So, America, scream at your Congressmen, abuse your Senators, allow them no respite. Provide them no sanctuary from your anger and your frustration. Let the wrath of the abused and the forgotten plague their every day. In short, tell them to draw in Bush and his cronies. Don’t let anymore of America fade away. We’ve lost enough already.
