First I must advice that if Thailand is looking for ways to increase the patriotism of its people they should probably look to another country for a good example, because the U.S. and patriotism are not getting along very well at the moment.

But on to the strange little story coming out of Thailand this morning. The Thai government is looking for ways to “boost patriotism” and came up with the idea of making motorist stop for the playing of the national anthem. I guess they saw a good old-fashioned cessation of ALL activity on a U.S. military installation at 1700 hours one too many times. However, lawmakers shot the bill down because it would be “chaotic” having all traffic stop twice a day.

Yet the bill will be going under review to ensure that the level of chaos will not get too out of hand, because this law, as the government states, “is to preserve tradition and instill patriotism in Thais.” Neat.

So, America, my question to you: when do you think the Chimp-in-Chief will try to latch onto this method of thinking?
